4AM Mood Music
Imagine a composition starting off with shortwave static, hiss and subtle washes of white noise, and suddenly a melody emerges, creating dense, organic layers of sound. Canadian, Montreal-based sound composer Tim Hecker acquired attention through his minimal techno moniker Jetone (releasing several singles and an album on German techno-label Force Inc.). His unmistakable talent came upfront via his debut album, released under his birth-name 'Haunt Me, Haunt Me, Do It Again' (Alien8 Recordings), which put him aside prolific producers such as Christian Fennesz, Oval and William Basinski. Several albums followed - including the Van Halen-sampling extravaganza 'My Love Is Rotten To The Core' (Alien8 Recordings), 'Mirages' (Alien8 Recordings) and the soundtrack to an imaginary story of Jimmy, a shrimp fisher, titled 'Radio Amor' (Mille Plateaux).
This month sees the release of his new album 'Harmony In Ultraviolet' (Kranky Records), on which he takes his trademark sound a step further into perfection.
